Patients with Respiratory Symptoms & Fever

Do not enter the clinic if you have…

  • Respiratory symptoms (sore throat, runny nose or cough) or
  • Fever (temperature greater than 37.5 C)

The clinics are Covid Safe and are ready to help all patients access medical care – including those with respiratory symptoms and/or fever

Our goal is to also minimise exposure risk to other patients and healthcare workers

We are unable to swab for Coronavirus at any of our clinics

If you require a Coronavirus swab, please click here for a list of available testing sites provided by DHHS

Telehealth consultations are available to patients with fever or respiratory symptoms

  • These appointments can only be arranged by calling the clinic (not online)
  • At the approximate time of your scheduled appointment, you will be called by your GP
  • If paperwork is generated from this phone consultation, it will be the patient’s responsibility to collect this paperwork from the clinic in person (we are unable to mail out paperwork at this time)
  • Scheduled Telehealth consultations are privately billed at the same rate as equivalent duration ‘in-person’ consultations
  • Your credit card details need to be provided over the phone, and your card will be charged the full consultation fee (the Medicare rebate component should be deposited into your bank account within a few days)
  • Please note that Telehealth consultations are unable to address multiple presenting complaints, nor address multiple family members

Based on your the Telehealth consultation, your doctor will determine one of the following…

  1. You have a mild viral illness that does not require examination
  2. You have a severe illness than requires immediate referral to hospital
  3. You have described symptoms that warrants your GP conducting a physical respiratory examination ‘in-person’ (see below)

‘In-person’ consultations for adults with respiratory symptoms or fever

  • Adult patients with respiratory symptoms or fever must have a negative Covid PCR swab test prior to seeing a doctor in person
  • An ‘in-person’ consultation can be booked once a negative result has been received

‘In-person’ consultations for children with respiratory symptoms or fever

  • As of 25/8/21 we are able to physically examine children (under 3 years old) with respiratory symptoms or fever, without needing a negative Covid PCR swab test prior to them seeing a doctor in person. Previously when the case numbers had reduced in March 2021, we were able to examine children under 18 years old without a prior Covid PCR swab test – but this is no longer feasible.
  • These appointments can only be made by calling the clinic (not online)
  • On arrival for your appointment, stay in your vehicle (or away from the clinic), and call reception to notify the clinic that you have arrived – then have your mobile ready
  • You will then be called by your GP when it is your turn according to the appointment book
  • After discussing your situation on the phone, your GP will then ask you to enter the clinic to finish the consultation with a physical examination – if they feel it’s needed
  • Our GPs still reserve the right to require children patients to have a negative covid PCR test prior to conducting a physical examination, if they feel it is warranted by their circumstances
  • In-person consultations will be billed privately according to our normal schedule of fees
  • During ‘in-person’ consultations your GP will be wearing a mask and protective gear

Respiratory examination areas at each site…

  • Proceed through the pedestrian gate just past the front sliding door

  • You will then reach the first roller door on the left which should be open
  • Then take a seat and the GP should be with you shortly
