Lockdown and your Mental Health

Some of us are feeling disheartened, afraid and distressed with the current lockdown, and many are still experiencing heightened anxiety and depression from the lockdowns of 2020.

Common feelings include experiencing sadness, grief, loneliness, isolation, boredom, frustration and fear. Lockdown fatigue leads to psychological, physical and emotional effects, including physical and mental exhaustion.

We are all really hoping this lockdown will be over in 5 days, but even 5 days will be really hard for some people, especially with a fear of what might be to come.

Mental health services are already reporting significantly increased demand, so if you are feeling down, you are far from alone. Please reach out to friends or family via phone or a video call.

Our doctors are experienced with assisting our patients who are struggling with their mood or are feeling anxious. We can help support you, provide practical tips, and assist to find a psychologist who can help you process your feelings at this difficult time.

We strongly encourage all of our patients to adhere to the Stage 4 lockdown restrictions. Please be assured that South Yarra Medical (and our partner clinics Richmond Medical and Hawthorn Medical) are open as usual and are focused on keeping you safe.

The Victorian Health Department advises that seeing your doctor is one of the permitted reasons for leaving home, and that Victorians should not delay seeing a doctor or accessing medical services. If you are unwell (including  mentally unwell), it is important that you see a healthcare professional. Please call our friendly receptionists on 9820 1144 or click here if you have any queries, or to make an appointment.
